Mom
I want to thank everyone for coming out to celebrate mom's life. Thank you.
And just so we all know, is not a eulogy.
These are My Words of the celebration of my Mom's, JeanBell's, life.
My name is Bruce and I'm Jean and Paul's youngest son.
Firstly, I'd like to say a few things that speak to mom's character. She was kind, smart, loving, and compassionate; pretty much all the good words I can think of, apply to mom. Proud, thoughtful, strong, courageous, the list does not end.
Before mom passed away, we talked about what a full and interesting life she had led. From living in Armstrong, Ontario, and raising a large family, to moving to the country of Guinea in Africa, and experiencing life living in the tropics, and everything in between. Mom said she'd had a happy life.
Mom loved to help people. And did so as often as she could. Im sure there are ways you know of her helping others somewhere. Both Mom and Dad's helping people in any way needed was passed on to us kids and helped us to learn kindness, compassion and that helping others is always part of our everyday lives. Mom also loved to do the artsy crafty stuff and spread her love through all the things she made, gifting many of those artsy crafty treasures to friends and family.
Mom was a thoughtful lady always giving that extra smile when it was needed or wanted. Giving out hugs to everyone. Mom always remembered every ones birthdays and anniversaries. She tried to be fair by making sure each child or grandchild got the same amount as the next. Naturally spreading her love and kindness as much as she could.
Two of the biggest happenings in moms life, that I saw, besides her children and family of course, were living in Africa and her fight with cancer.
Mom was very proud to have lived in Africa, travelling overseas and experiencing a different, and at times challenging life. Mom got the opportunity to do and experience many things that most can't and always cherished and shared her memories from living there. Mom loved to brag about her fun times living in Africa and tried to make sure that if someone else was talking about living overseas, that they knew, she had lived in the jungles of Africa.
When Mom got cancer, fighting cancer, became her passion. And since Mom taught us kids to be supportive, it became a bit of a passion for us all.
Mom was published. She wrote a chapter for a woman, who wrote a book about the struggles of living with cancer. Mom mentions in her story,
"God whispers to our souls and to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't take the time to listen He throws a brick at us. It's our choice to listen to the whisper or wait for the brick. I certainly don't want the brick. I'm listening for the whisper."
Well, Mom has finally answered the whisper she heard.
My mom was a huge influence in my life. She taught me so much. But mostly my mom taught me how to be kind, strong and help those that need help and show others to do the same.
My mom was the most courageous, the most capable, strongest and toughest person I have ever had the privilege of knowing and I am proud to have been in her life.
I love you Mom.
