Full Disclosure Pricing
FULL DISCLOSURE PRICING & WHAT THAT MEANS TO YOU
Manitoba was one of the last provinces to regulate full price disclosure. In 2009 the Funeral Services Act & its regulations were recently updated to ensure that all Funeral Home owners present honest and complete pricing. A government appointed inspector will add to the provinces promise to crackdown on the offender Funeral Home operators.
As Licensed Funeral Directors, we are obligated to be honest and fully disclose pricing to our families. We currently offer this through General Price Lists at our funeral home and when we advertise.
As a consumer, please be aware that many Funeral Directors are lobbying the government to do away with price advertising by funeral homes. This defeats the purpose of Full-Price Disclosure as it forces families to literally phone or go to many funeral homes in person to find out what might be the best pricing and services, which on the worse day of your life is not something you really want to do.
The best scenario would be to seek information on pricing and services on a pre-need basis to take away the emotional decision making that occurs when a death has occurred.
Interestingly enough, when you purchase pre-arranged funerals in Manitoba, all prices and contracts are now regulated by the Public Utilities Board and at some point may be regulated by the Funeral Board of Manitoba. You have to be licensed as a seller and have your prices acknowledged by the Board.
PLEASE CALL YOUR M.L.A. TO DISCUSS SO THAT THE PURCHASING PUBLIC DOES NOT LOSE ANOTHER INFORMATION FORUM BY WAY OF DOING AWAY WITH PRICE DISCLOSURE THROUGH ADVERTISING!
