David John Patten
December 17, 1945 – February 10, 2016
Dave loved life. Family came first. He loved bragging about each of his children and grandchildren. From cheering at hockey games to sitting quietly through dance recitals, he was so proud of every accomplishment.
His second love was tennis. He started playing at a young age, and continued until he was too sick to play anymore. In between he was very proud of his years as a tennis official with Tennis Canada.
Dave spent 30 years working for MPI, starting as claims adjuster and ending his career, as he called it the “conscience of the corporation”. As a customer service rep, he loved fixing problems, and had a real feeling of satisfaction when a distraught customer walked away satisfied and smiling.
After taking early retirement Dave found a new love- travelling. He loved telling people that he had been around the world, and he almost made it.
Dave faced his toughest challenge this last year, his fight with cancer. He faced everyday with determination to beat this cruel disease. He never gave up. Husband, father, grandfather will be missed and always loved.
Predeceased by his father John “Jack” Patten, he is survived by his loving wife Dianne; sons Sean , Mark (Amanda) and their daughter Tia; daughters, Dawn and her sons Ethan and Jason, Megan (Greg) and their daughter Lily; his mother Marie Patten; his brother John; sister Elizabeth (Nelson) and many nieces, nephews and friends.
