Obituary for Walter Martin

Walter Martin
WALTER MARTIN

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Walter (Wally) Martin on July 29, 2016 at the age of 74. He was predeceased by his father Fredrick; mother Lydia; brother Fred; sisters-in-law, Lorraine, Isabelle, Patricia; uncle Ed and aunt Jennie. Walter is survived by his brother Ted Martin (Marcia), Surprise, Arizona; nephews, Wayne Martin (Barbara) of Edmonton, Alberta; Robert Martin (Colleen) of Winnipeg; Darryl Martin (Sharon) of Burnaby, British Columbia; niece Arlene Martin (Dean) of Winnipeg; and cousin Judith Neumann (Ron) of Winnipeg. Walter grew up in the North End on Machray Avenue, attending Ralph Brown and Sisler schools. Walter worked at Weston Bakery prior to hiring on with the CP railway working in the Weston Shops as a Pipefitter. He worked for the railway for over 34 years, retiring in 1999. Walter looked forward to summer bbq's with family, Sunday morning breakfasts in Headingley, and Thursday wing nights. He was always hoping to catch a severe case of lottery luck with scratch tickets and the Lotto, and enjoyed playing the "ding dings" at the casino and Legends. Thanks to a good friend, he was able to take a road trip to play the slot machines just days before his passing. He thoroughly enjoyed watching sporting events, especially hockey, baseball and American football. During visits with his brother Ted in the USA he saw many sports teams including the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, the Atlanta Braves, Arizona Cardinals, and the Arizona Coyotes. He was a huge collector of t-shirts and baseball caps. He was truly blessed to have such remarkable friends, Angie and Dick Boyes, Mark Kleinholz, and Leandra Wren. The family wishes to thank these friends whose support was extraordinary in the last few weeks, when he needed you the most. Cremation has taken place, with interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Walter can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
