Many people can say that their grandparents are the most amazing... however My Grandpa was truly the most amazing Man, Husband, Father, Grandpa and Great Grandpa that anyone has ever had the privilege of knowing. Walter was such a caring, strong, knowledgeable and proud man. The one word that comes to my mind when describing my Grandpa is Proud. He proved that all through-out his struggle with Cancer until his last breath.
Grandpa was proud of everything in his life.. he has an unconditional love for my grandma. She was the apple of his eye. I will never forget picking my grandma up for a Doctor's appointment and my grandpa not being able to come as he wasn't feeling great.. he looked up at me and said you make sure you take care of her and bring her back soon. That was a promise that i kept for Grandpa. His love for my grandmother was like no other.
Grandpa's love for his children was also unconditional. He worked 3 jobs just to support them.. and still managed to always be there for them, through coaching, family time, long talks etc.
Grandpa's love for his grand children was like no other.. my grandparents used to pick my sister and I up from school.. they would surprise us and walk to the school so that they could walk home with us and all of our friends.. Everyone used to say they are so cool, can we have them as our grandparents.? We used to spend weeks in the summer/spring break over at their house, each day being a brand new day that we could create. We would go puddle jumping, multiple parks, 7-11 runs, every day was special because we were with our grandma and grandpa. I will never forget when my grandma went to bed, we would stay up and watch law and order with my grandpa. Hanging with grandpa in the hospital was tough espeically the last visit for me. We always made the best of the time by talking about the Jets and why they were doing so bad, talking about travel and just whatever came to our minds. I will always cherish this special time with him.
Finally my grandpa's love for his great grand children. I can't even begin to describe how much this meant to Jaxon and Brantley. Grandpa was in Jaxon's life for 4 years and he made sure he made an impression. Any time we would bring the boys over, Grandpa's face lit up. He loved those little boys so much and the feeling is mutual. I always made sure i brought Jaxon to the hospital as much as I could to see Grandpa, because it gave grandpa a smile, as well as Jaxon. One of the memories, i will never forget is how they entertained each other by grandpa shaking Jaxon's hand and saying "how do you do?" They did this for 45 minutes straight, both with big grins laughing and smiling. It was priceless. I am so glad that Grandpa got some precious years with the boys.. they will never forget you.
The Day grandpa passed, something was telling me to leave work early and go and see him. I did just that, and when i got to the hospital, i immediately went to hold his hand, it wasn't much time after that, that he took his last breath. I will never forget that day! The world lost one of the most amazing people!
May you rest in peace and know that you will never be forgotten.
Nick, Jaxon and I love you to the moon and back!
