Obituary for Nicholas John Maruszczak

It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Nick Maruszczak, at St. Boniface Hospital on May 10, with family by his side.

Nick was predeceased by his parents Wasyl "Bill" Maruszchak and Annie "Anne" (nee Sereda); as well as his sister Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Smith of England (Stan). Nick is survived by his daughter Anna, son William (Tara), ex-wife Alice (nee Robinson), and his brother Robert "Bob" Budolowski (Tara-Tami).

Nick was born in Prince Albert, SK, in 1951. In his childhood, his family moved to Snow Lake, MB, where he grew up and he started working in the mines for HBM&S (1970-1974). He was well known in Snow Lake for his car restorations and road racing. Nick later graduated Keewatin College in The Pas, MB (1976) as a Certified Automobile Mechanic, and shortly thereafter moved to Winnipeg, where he lived most his life.

Over the years, Nick went through a few career changes, and eventually found himself meaningfully self-employed in the drywall industry. For over 30+ years, "Nick the Sander" had helped create some of the most beautiful properties throughout the city. He had great pride in his workmanship and perfectionism, and received much recognition for the quality of his work in this trade.

Nick's passions were cars, computer building, computer gaming, and mushroom picking. He was also an excellent player at chess, badminton, curling, and pool.

As per Nick's wishes, he has been cremated and no formal funeral service will take place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to United Way Winnipeg to help him build this city that he loved to call home.
