Obituary for Francisca Palmeiro

Francisca De Jesus Palmeiro
February 27, 1928 - April 17, 2023

With profound sadness, we wish to announce the passing of our mom, Francisca De Jesus Palmeiro. Mom was recently predeceased by our dad, her loving husband of 74 years, Jose Maria Palmeiro, her parents and her sisters, Maria and Rogelia in Portugal. She is survived by her children, Jose and Madalena, who lovingly stayed by her side holding her hand and comforting mom until she took her last breath. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, great grandchildren, her brother Antonio and many family members and friends in Canada and Portugal.

Mom was very passionate in all that she did. During our younger years we all looked forward to the Sunday dinners that mom would prepare for us. We loved her cooking, her traditional rice pudding, the "fritos" that would melt in your mouth and of course her famous Easter bread "folares de Pascoa". She was also an avid gardener and had such pride in growing her beautiful dahlias, peonies, poppies and a huge variety of herbs and vegetables.

Mom spent many years babysitting children of family and friends as well as her own grandchildren. We all had comfort in knowing that our children were left in loving and capable hands. She always made sure she had a large pot of nutritious soup to feed the children that were in her care. Mom never complained or criticized, but was always willing to give us good advice. She was the friend that we were able to talk to or share a secret with and know that it would be safe with her. Mom was an excellent role model in all that she did and her legacy will always be cherished within our hearts.

When dad retired, he and mom enjoyed travelling to Portugal. Mom loved spending time with her sisters, family and close friends. Always willing to lend a helping hand. Mom also looked forward to visiting "O Santuario De Fatima" in Central Portugal.

Our family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Poseidon Personal Care Home for their compassionate care and support during mom's lengthy stay, specifically the 4th floor staff where mom was residing.

A combined funeral service for mom and dad will be held at Holy Rosary Church on April 26, 2023. Condolences is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and mass to proceed at 11:00. Inurnment at Assumption Cemetery and Queen of Heaven Mausoleum will follow for family only. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.

We will always carry your memory in our hearts. Descanse em paz
