Obituary for Jose Maria Palmeiro

Jose Maria Palmeiro passed away peacefully on April 10, 2023 at Posiedon Personal Care Home surrounded by the love of his family. Jose was predeceased by his parents and sister, and is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Francisca, their children Madalena and Jose, their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his sister Arminda and numerous family members and friends in Canada and Portugal.

Jose learned his masonry skills from his father at a very young age. He became especially interested in the design of the ornamental chimneys, known as "chamine Algravia" that characterize Portugal's sunny southern Algarve.

Jose first arrived in Canada on April 23, 1957. After travelling from the east to the west coast of Canada, he decided to make Winnipeg his home. He then returned to Portugal and began the process of immigrating with his wife and children. As a family, they started their life in Winnipeg in April, 1961.

With much pride, Jose continued with his profession using his intricate masonry skills on many buildings and homes in Winnipeg and Ontario.

Jose had many passions in life. He was an avid hunter in his younger years and also enjoyed going fishing with his family and friends. He loved watching hockey and European football. He was a loyal supporter of S. L. Benfica. Jose cherished his time vacationing with Francisca in Portugal, soaking up the sun on the beaches of Algarve and spending time with family in Santa Barbara de Nexe. He was also a proud and active member of the Portuguese community in Winnipeg. He treasured the company of friends, playing cards and dominos and sharing great food and wine. Most of all, Jose was happiest when surrounded by his loving family. Receiving a hug and kiss from his grandchildren and great-grand children brought him much joy.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Poseideon Personal Care Home, specifically the staff on the 4th floor, for their compassionate care and support.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.

We will cherish your memory always....descanse em paz.
