Obituary for Dorothy Vivian Jones

DOROTHY VIVIAN JONES
September 11, 1929 - February 28, 2023

With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Jones, 93 years, at Golden West
Centennial Lodge.

Dorothy was born in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan and was the youngest of seven children. She lived the
majority of her life in her home on Dorchester Avenue in Winnipeg, MB. She loved her home and her
three cats - Toby, Buffy and Oscar. Dorothy loved all animals but had a soft spot for cats. She rescued
many stray cats over the years.

Dorothy worked most of her adult life as an executive secretary for Mr. Leach and Mr. Searle, at
Federal Industries. Being at work all day did not allow her to watch her soap operas, so when the Beta
Max video recorder was released, she was one of the first to purchase one in Winnipeg. This enabled
her to watch her beloved soap operas in the evenings, after she got home from work.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with family and attended all family dinners and celebrations. She
loved to go shopping in downtown Winnipeg. Her favourite stores were Eatons and The Bay, where
she would find the most unique gifts.

Dorothy was the youngest and last surviving member of her immediate family - parents William &
Beatrice Jones, sisters - Freda (Jim) Fraser, Lorena (Bill) Lyle, Eileen (Wilf) Burgess, Adrienne (Jim)
Macpherson, Phyllis (Alec) Mitchell and her brother - Harvey (Alice) Jones. As well, she had two sisters
who passed away at an early age - Marguerite, shortly after birth and Nettie at 21 months. Dorothy is
survived by her brother-in-law Jim Macpherson and sister-in-law Alice Jones, as well as many nieces
and nephews.

Dorothy will be remembered for her witty sense of humour and her feistiness. She will be greatly
missed by all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace and be with all the family and friends
she so dearly missed.

Many thanks to the 5 th Floor staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge for their wonderful care the past
few years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a no kill cat or animal shelter of your choice.

Cremation has taken place. Internment will take place at a date to be determined and posted on the
Mosaic Funeral website.
