Obituary for Jeannette Stella Marie Bedard

Jeannette Stella Marie Bedard (nee Picard)
October 5, 1923 - October 30, 2022

Peacefully in the loving embrace of her granddaughter, and surrounded by her family, our mother went to her eternal rest.

Jan was predeceased by her husband Charles (Sonny) in 1986 and her 8-yr old grandson, Andrew in 2004. The second youngest of a family of twelve, she is survived by her younger sister Aileen Robinson. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Lorraine (Dan Janssens), her sons Charles (Chuck) Karlina (Morgan Hill, California) and Robert (Bob) Sara (Las Vegas, Nevada) as well as her grandchildren Jeff (Karen), Lisa, Adrian, Emma, Dylan, Braxton and Mikayla.

Mom was always proud to remind us that Morier Avenue in St Vital was named for her mother’s family. Mom grew up on Victoria Crescent and was fond of telling us that she would walk a mile from her home to the street car on St. Mary’s Rd. Mom went back to work when we were all in high school and she called many of her co-workers friends. To this day they would still include my mother in their Friday afternoon FaceTime chats. For those times she was so very grateful.

Mom was always a forward thinker and was instrumental in putting us, her children, in a French school before it was popular. I always credit my mom for getting me every job I ever had for that very reason.

Mom loved to travel, often visiting her sons and foreign places. She loved to line dance, play 500, bridge, beat Danny at cribbage, and work on no less than 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles. When her memory started to fail her, I let her be Dan’s partner. We always had a good chuckle about that. She had a good sense of humor, although couldn’t ever remember a joke.

A few years ago, my mother and I along with two of my cousins and their moms, my aunts, shared several mother/daughter “week-ends” visiting between Winnipeg, Ottawa and P.E.I. The memories are especially precious now,

Her family was her everything. She enjoyed a very special relationship with her granddaughter Lisa but spoke highly of all her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy.

We want to thank the many staff of Golden Links Lodge for the excellent care and support they provided while she was there. It gave us such comfort to know we could leave her in their care when we couldn’t be there.

A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Timothy’s Refugee Fund (St. Timothy’s Parish 135 John Forsyth Rd. R2N 1R3) or to a charity of your choice.
