Obituary for Michio Kimura

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michio Kimura on Sept 10th , 2022

He passed away peacefully with his wife and son at his side and under the wonderful and compassionate
care of the staff of the palliative wing of the Riverview Hospital. Homecare was an indispensable service
that provided dignity, privacy and comfort in a situation that would be otherwise be unpleasant and our
thanks goes to all those who cared for him.

We fondly look upon his life as that of a mechanical engineer capable of fixing anything from a computer
to a car to the kitchen sink, a man capable of creating art through nature in the yard, and as a man that
cared and provided for his family in every way possible.

Even towards the end of Michio’s life, he provided help to many others by providing advice, an ear to
listen, and contributing to finding more effective treatments for those experiencing their battle against
cancer. The rigorous treatments he subjected his body to and under the innovative and progressive care
of the oncology department of the Health Science centre will inevitably allow many others to live longer,
more comfortable, and otherwise dignified lives.

Moreso, we reminisce over the loving husband, father and friend that we were fortunate to have as long
as we did. One of the most astounding things about Michio is that you’d be hard pressed to find a
person who interacted with him whether it be in passing or after a deep conversation that didn’t have
some form of admiration for him directly after. A smile most infectious and an enthusiasm that was
empowering to all is an enduring characteristic that all who have met him will be able to recall. He will
be remembered by friends and family as a person who permanently smiled, a man with unparalleled
work ethic, and above all a man who was kind to all that were fortunate to cross paths with him.
