Obituary for Erlinda De Vera

It is with great sadness that the family of Erlinda “Ellen” De Vera, beloved partner, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, announce her passing on Monday, September 5th, 2022 at the age of 68.

Born in Pasig City, Manila, Ellen studied nursing at a local university and went on to work as a secretary for a high-ranking military general. She immigrated to Winnipeg in 1989 and eventually found work in the healthcare industry, which is how she met her partner, Divina. They were together for 17 years.

Ellen was best known for her kind nature, generosity, and ever-present smile. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing karaoke, garden, and play cards with friends on the weekends. She was very social and enjoyed a good party – she was often the first one out on the dance floor, encouraging her friends to dance the cha-cha with her. She was a loving and supportive mother and doting grandmother who spent as much time as she could with her apos.

She will be lovingly remembered by her partner, Divina; her daughter, Jen (Mark); grandchildren Elsie and Elliott; sisters Juliet, Zeny (Joey), Delia (Imo), and Alice (Danny); brothers Ernesto (Thelma), Roberto (Mely), Jun (Dely), Dan (Itas), Lauro (Marly), Rolly (Luisa), Jimmy (Ning), Art (Marliou), Carlo (Alice), and Milyo (Milette); her in-laws Danny (Lina), Rey (Marissa), Ariel (Joy), Dolet (Lito), and Boy (Annie); as well as her numerous nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was predeceased by her sisters Tess and Nelia, brother Alex, and her parents, Simplicio and Socorro.

A viewing will be held on Friday/Saturday September 9/10th from 6pm-12 at Mosaic Funeral Chapel (1839 Inkster Blvd). A mass will be held on Tuesday, Sept 13th at 2pm at St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church (748 Keewatin St).

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Health Sciences Centre and St Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion.
