Obituary for Lucila Contreras

Lucila Contreras, age 81 loving mother and adoring wife to husband Eduardo Contreras, sadly passed peacefully the morning of July 31st 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lucila also known as “Rosie” was born October 31, 1941 in the Philippines in the small village of Sambat, Bauan; province of Batangas. She grew up surrounded by a family of 5 siblings, a loving mother, aunts and uncles.

Lucila was influenced by her family to be a passionate, loving and caring woman who worked hard to provide for the family starting at a young age. In search of further opportunities for providing more for her family, her hard work and determination lead her to leave home and begin a new life by immigrating to Canada in 1975. In Winnipeg, she worked as a seamstress for TanJay Garments for over 30 years and worked odd part-time jobs at the same time to send support to her family back in the Philippines. She helped open doors for family members to follow and start their new lives here in Canada.

She married Eduardo in 1977 in the Philippines and after a year of sponsorship, they were united in Winnipeg and was able to begin their family. Lucila was a patient, loving and kind mother who shared everything with her family. She taught valuable life lessons to her family through her actions and through her faith with God and the church. Lucila became a grandmother and was absolutely thrilled about her family growing even bigger. In her free time, she loved to sing, dance, visit with family and play with her grandchildren as much as possible. Her beautiful smile and infectious laughter will be greatly missed by all.
Lucila was survived by her husband Eduardo, son Emil and his wife Shelly and their two daughters Makena and Myla. As well by her sisters Tarsicia Abrenica and Natividad and her husband Merlito Garcia.

Lucila was predeceased by her mother Primitiva Abrenica and father Alipio Abrenica; brothers Rufino and Virgilio Abrenica and sister Remedios Camacho.

There will be a wake “lamay” service for family and friends who would like to help celebrate Lucila’s life on Friday August 6 and Saturday August 7, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at Mosiac Funeral Chapel located on 1839 Inkster Boulevard.
