Obituary for Constante Monillas

Born March 15th,1938, in Manila, Philippines, Constante (Mon) Fernandine Monillas passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 15th, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Mon is survived by his wife of 50 years Luz; sons, Michael (Mercy) and Peter; daughter Cristina (Andy); and loyal canine friend Ernie.

Mon graduated from Mapia Institute of Technology High School. After graduating from Mapia in 1958, he went on to study at Rodriguez Vocational School where he completed a two-year special trade curriculum in Machine Shop Practices.

In 1962, Mon joined the Philippine Constabulary. He proudly completed his Special PC Basic Ranger Course at Camp Crame, Quezon City. During that same year, he received his certificate for completing a Program of Instruction on Black Belter Instructor Training. He was authorized to instruct martial arts by the Philippine Combat-Judo Association. By 1970, Mon had become, Sergeant Constante F. Monillas. He also achieved his 3rd Dan Black Belt in his beloved style; Okinawa Shorin-Ryu. Years leading up to this achievement he taught many self-defence courses in VIP Security Guard Training and Black Belter Courses at the Constabulary Training Center.

In 1965, Mon met Luz, the love of his life. Seven years later, he married her. By 1973, they started a new life in Canada. A year later, they purchased their first home and started a family. Mon was a force of nature, determined to provide for his young family. He worked for Pepsi Cola Co. as a machine operator and stayed with the company for thirty-two years. Family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of Michael, Peter, Cristina, and Luz and his love and support of them was unwavering.

Mon was a beautifully light-hearted, gentle, and kind man. He was a storyteller. He was often heard telling stories, and people could not resist listening to them. He led an incredibly fascinating and full life that never failed to give him inspiration for his next tale. He was a true gem. One of a kind. An amazing husband, and the best dad.

Although you are dearly missed, we know that you are at peace. We love you always.
