Obituary for Consuelo Alberto Mendoza

CONSUELO ALBERTO MENDOZA
November 4, 1941- February 6, 2021
Consuelo, known to friends and family as Connie or Ching, peacefully went into God’s arms on February 6th, 2021, at the age of 79. She was born in Catanduanes, Philippines. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, tita, and grandma. She graduated from the University of Santo Thomas as a Bachelor of Science and Commerce, and became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She met her friend, Amado Mendoza Sr., who became her loving husband of 55 years.
Consuelo will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Evelyn (Rodolfo Padua), Felilia (Andres Ticzon), and Victorina (Conrado Tualla), and her sisters-in-law Carmen and Exaltacion Alberto. She leaves a legacy of six children: Amado (Josefina), Consuelo (Raymond Benson), Imelda (Noel Fagan), Marcelino, Monica (Walter Carranza), and Monaliza (Rommel Vianzon); and eight grandchildren: Deril, Dannyel, Danielle, Logan, Omar, Keaira,Kaylah and Jaime; as well as many nephews, nieces and extended family members.
Amado and Consuelo immigrated to Canada with their six children in 1977, in hopes of creating better opportunities for their family. While being a devoted mother and wife, Consuelo worked as an accountant at Fort Ignition until she retired after 22 years. After her retirement, she devoted her time to caring for her eight grandchildren. She also gave a life of service to numerous community organizations, including: St. Peters Roman Catholic Church and choir; the Catholic Women’s League; Lady of the Knights of Columbus; Lady of the Knights of Rizal; Alumna of the University of Santo Thomas; the Magadaragat Filipino Folklorama Pavillion; and founder of the Catanduanes International & Bicol Associations of Manitoba. She was responsible for the 1st medical mission in Catanduanes, Philippines in 1993 and continued to participate until the 10th medical mission in January 2020. Consuelo enjoyed travelling around the world, singing, dancing, being a gracious hostess, and playing mahjong and cards with her sisters.
After a long battle with pancreatic cancer, she died peacefully with her family by her side at the Grace Hospice. We would like to thank all the specialist Doctors, Cancer Care Manitoba, as well as all the health care providers that were by her side through her journey, especially her home care workers, the palliative team, Riverview palliative center and Grace Hospice, who treated our mom like family.
