Obituary for Maria Anania

Maria Anania (nee Pingitore)
October 12, 1923 – December 15, 2020

Peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, Maria Anania passed into eternal rest at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg and is now with her beloved husband, Francesco Anania.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Antonio (Maria) Anania, Felicia (Carmelo) Mauro and Caterina Rizzuto (Anthony); her grandchildren, Frank, Mario (Candace), Christina (Nathan), Lea (Rick), Sabrina (Frank), Jennifer (Greg), Joe (Alison), Connie (Mike) and Francesco, and nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was born in Amato, Italy on October 12, 1923. Mom and Dad were married on October 26, 1946, in Amato. In 1950 Dad immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada to start a better life for his family. Mom joined him in December 1952, with her 2 children, Antonio and Felicia. Caterina was born in Winnipeg a few years later.
Nonna's life revolved around taking care of her family. The first question out of her mouth every time you talked to her was 'hai mangiato?'. She especially enjoyed baking and cooking traditional Italian foods. When you walked into her house at any given time you were treated to fresh buns, focaccia, or pizza to name but a few. Nonna was a loving, generous person, but you knew you were in trouble when you got the 'look'. We will cherish our memories of her as they will forever live on in our hearts.
Mom lived at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for the last 4 years. She enjoyed her time there and was often heard singing with the staff. We would like to thank the incredible 2nd floor staff for their care and support and for arranging virtual visits with mom when we weren’t able to visit physically.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020, at 11:00 am with Father Sam Argenziano officiating at Holy Rosary Church. A live streaming will be available through www.youtube.com/ Holy Rosary Church Winnipeg.
Entombment to follow in the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, 276 Hugo Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3M 2N6 or go to their website and click on Contribute.
WE LOVE YOU MOM/NONNA AND WE WILL MISS YOU. REST IN PEACE
GOD HAS CHOSEN A WONDERFUL SOUL TO ADD TO HIS ANGELS IN HEAVEN.
