Obituary for Sancho Sr. Hernando

SANCHO CUBILLO HERNANDO, SR.
October 24, 1937 – December 10, 2020
Sancho Sr., aged 83, peacefully joined his Creator and Saviour on December 10, 2020, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, surrounded by the love of his family.
Sancho was born in Indang, Cavite, Philippines on October 24, 1937. He was third of four children where he grew up on family-owned farmland. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce at the University of the East in Manila. His father, a WWII veteran, inspired him to enlist as an Army reservist. Sancho’s family endured challenges during and after the war but were able to rebuild successfully.
The land Sancho spent his childhood in had an abundance of fruit-bearing trees and plants; this is how he got his green thumb! Later, the family moved to Quezon City, but frequently visited their house and land in Indang. As Sancho’s own family grew, he would take them to visit his hometown and enjoy the view of the nearby Taal Volcano.
Sancho was a great father and provider for his wife of 58 years, Concordia, and their four children. Together, they ensured that everyone would be well-equipped for the future with a formal education.
Sancho travelled to many places throughout the Philippines, Canada, and the US, and even spent a few years working in the Middle East. Finally, in 2000, Sancho and Concordia moved to Canada to join their four children.
Sancho was preceded in death by his parents, Teofilo and Matilda. He is survived by his wife, Concordia, his children, Henry (Christina) Hernando, Cecilia Hernando, Criselda (Cory) Ledger, and Sancho (Nancy) Hernando Jr.; his grandchildren, Mary Daniellie (Charles) Hernando-Collantes, Chris Hendriel and Tina Mariel Hernando, Cassidy Marie Ledger, Gabriel Bosco and Sofia Inez Hernando, and Landon Collantes. He is also survived by his siblings, Delia (d. Maximo) Severa, Romeo (d. Cynthia) Hernando, and Nelia Hernando. He will also be lovingly missed by his cousins, nephews, and nieces scattered throughout the world.
Funeral Arrangements: Due to public health restrictions, in-person attendance at the viewing and mass of resurrection will be limited to family only (by appointment).
The viewing will be held at the Mosaic Funeral Chapel (1839 Inkster Blvd) on Friday, December 18, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM. A livestream of the service will be posted on Facebook live.
Funeral service and internment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens (4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3K 1W3) on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 11:00 AM.
The Hernando family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the First Responders and the staff at the Health Sciences Centre, and to all family and friends who offered their prayers, support, and comforting messages.
Wisdom 4:7-10
“The virtuous man, though he died before his time, will find rest. Length of days is not what makes age honourable, no number of years the true measure of life; understanding, this is man’s grey hairs, untarnished life, this is ripe old age. He has sought to please God, so God has loved him…”
