In loving memory of Mom, always on our minds, forever in our hearts
It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother Betty Hutchinson after a long fight with dementia which she battled with all her might. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, or any animal shelter of your choice. Mom was predeceased by her parents Alex and Agnes Brown along with her brothers Leo, Vince, Raymond and sister Lorraine, also her dear daughter Judy Pimentel.
Left to mourn is her partner Russell Smetaniuk of 30 years, her daughter Jean Giffen with her children, (Greg, Amanda, Patrick) and her son Jim Hutchinson (Arlene) with their children LJ (Jason) and Jenny, and Judy’s children Joey and Megan. Betty was fortunate to enjoy love from her 10 great grand children. Also left behind is her sister Joan O’Rourke, cousins, nephews and nieces that all reside in Ontario.
Betty moved from Hamilton ON to Winnipeg MB in 1966. After raising her children she worked many retail/reception jobs. Mom was incredibly creative and loved to sew clothes for her family, millinery (designing and making hats fit for a queen) which she took great pride in, jewelry, beading, embroidery, and would paint just about anything, including rocks in her yard and her garage door with a big tree filled with colorful birds. She had the brightest blue house on the street and painted purple BBQ to match her patio furniture at the lake. We will always miss her family dinners with the best homemade spaghetti sauce in town and her special Christmas dinners.
What mattered most to Mom, besides her family, was her great love of animals. You name it and she probably had it at one time. Like horses and her love of the race track, a spider monkey, a myna bird and other species, (she loved to bird watch). Home was not home without her beloved dogs and cats. Betty will be greatly missed by all that knew her, especially that great sense of humor followed by her quirky smile and contagious laughter. Sadly, due to covid-19 there will not be a service at this time.
