ERNESTO (ERNIE) P. LACUNA
December 4, 1949 - May 8, 2020

Ernie Lacuna, husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020 at the age of 70, with family at his side. He is survived by his loving wife Dionesia (nee Montalban), his children Leo (Lina), Ernest, Lisa (Phil), and his grandchildren Logan, Caleigh and Marcus; his siblings in the Philippines: Herminia (Francisco+) in Quezon City, Zenaida (Virgilio+) in Caloocan City, Jose ‘Che’ (Jing) in Quezon City, Arsenio (Melba) in Manila, Nestor +, Leonida (Armando) in Batangas, and Leopoldo ‘Jun’ Jr. (Pamela) in Nueva Ecija, nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in Penaranda, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, Ernie moved to Canada at age 25, married his wife Dion, and began his career in the hotel industry at the Holiday Inn Downtown. He was very proud of the 35 years he dedicated to the hospitality industry in Winnipeg. He loved food and cooking, watching sports and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He will be missed by his family, friends and those who knew him. He wished to express his love and gratitude to his family, his siblings and relatives, his sister-in-law Lilia and her friends, and to all of our friends for their support and prayers; to Francisco Damota for his inspiration and mentorship, to his colleagues, Holiday Inn Downtown, Lombard Hotel (Westin), Hotel Fort Garry, and the Winnipeg Convention Centre for the opportunity to work with their A teams. Thank you to Fr. Parrenas, Fr. Gurr, Fr. Arsenault and Fr. Angeles; Dr. Mayba and Manitoba Clinic, Dr. Goldenberg and St. Boniface Hospital, Palliative Care Coordinator Erin Mattson, Nurse Carol and all the nurses and home care workers, and to the doctors and nurses at Riverview Health Centre.
At Ernie’s request, cremation has taken place. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated ‪on Saturday,
May 30, 2020 at 11:00AM‬ at St. Mary’s Cathedral, followed by entombment at Living Waters Columbarium. A Memorial Mass for family and friends to attend may be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary’s Cathedral, Winnipeg and CancerCare Mantioba.
