Obituary for Florante Liberato
Florante (Dante) Liberato
October 27, 1948 – March 11, 2020
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Florante (Dante) Liberato on March 11, 2020 at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg at the age of 71.
Dante is survived by his wife Merle and their son Rey (Joanne) and daughter Leah. He was predeceased by their eldest son, Don (Pheth).
He leaves behind five grandchildren, Rey Jr., Lucas Reyn, Laci Jayne, Maximus Dante, and Kasidy Belle. As well as remaining Liberato family members back in the Philippines and close extended family, the Adelantars and Juayangs.
Dante was born and raised in the Philippines. He served in the Philippine Airforce before marrying the love of his life, Merle. They married in Cebu Philippines in 1973 and moved to Winnipeg, MB Canada in 1974. He worked for Canada Wire for 26 years.
He loved anything to do with cars and planes and was an avid fisher back in the day. He enjoyed taking his family on road trips around North America. One of his favourites would have to be trekking them across the western and midwestern states. Viewing all the animals of Yellowstone Park to saying hello to the former U.S. presidents at Mount Rushmore.
What most would remember Dante of was that he was a kind, gentle, and humble man with an energetic voice. In 1999 he was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer and survived. It wasn’t until the summer 2019 where he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinson’s that really changed things. Unfortunately, it was a stroke that took him to his untimely passing. He was a fortress of strength and a source of love for his family. He will be dearly missed.
