Obituary for Nieves Cariaga Galimba

Nieves Cariaga Galimba
August 5, 1944 – February 4, 2020

Nieves Cariaga-Galimba, a native of Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, peacefully joined our Creator on February 4th, 2020 at the age of 75. She was the third child among seven siblings. She was predeceased by her parents, Florio Sr and Josefina Cariaga, and her older brother Francisco. Nieves spent most of her life in the Philippines. Sewing clothes, weaving blankets were few of her hobbies where she was good at. Planting and selling vegetables in the market was another way to help her husband in raising the family. In 1968, she married the love of her life, Aniceto and they were blessed with six children: Wilfred, Evelyn, Reuben, Dante, Delfin and Rhean. She was an epitome of a hardworking parent; who always made sure that family was a top priority. She nourished the people around her with love. In July 2015, Nieves and Aniceto started the new chapter of their life in Canada and reunited with three of their children, grand kids, and a couple of siblings. Winnipeg is one of the coldest places to live in, however the love of her family kept her warm. She will be fondly remembered and missed by her husband Aniceto, her children, grandchildren, siblings, Florencia, Eliza, Antonia, Daniela, and Florio Jr., nephews, nieces and cousins both in Winnipeg, Italy and in the Philippines. Our family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the Health Sciences Centre, and the nurses and home care workers from WRHA, for their attentiveness and loving care.
