Obituary for Edith Shirley Hawryshyn

Shirley E Hawryshyn
August 31, 1933 – November 5, 2019

With great sadness the family of Shirley Edith Hawryshyn announces her passing, after a brief illness, on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the age 86 years. She was born on August 31, 1933 in Plum Coulee, Manitoba.
Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her son Craig (Dianne) and daughter Kimberley (Greg); she will also be cherished forever by her grandchildren Christopher (Angela), Jessica (Dilllon), and Caroline (Corey) who affectionately referred to her as Nana; her three great grandchildren Michael, Tessa and Kaya, as well as her sisters Esther, Jean, and Diane(Ron) and their families. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Howie; parents Jacob and Helena Neufeld; and great-granddaughters Charlotte and Elizabeth.
Shirley was a people person and made friends easily. She enjoyed lifelong friendships fostered through the clubs she participated in: singing with the Sweet Adelines, volunteering with the Good Neighbors, exercising at the Wellness Centre and gardening at the Millenium Gardens. Shirley was an avid hobbyist: sewing, knitting, quilting, stained glass art, and creative cooking. In particular, she loved and delighted in the many memorable summers spent with her family at the cottage in Hillside Beach.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the homecare workers and staff who made it possible for her to live independently, as well as the nurses and doctors at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion in her final days. Special thanks to her physician Dr. Lori Ebbeling-Treon.
A Funeral service will be led by Pastor Marv Thiessen at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Street, Winnipeg, MB; viewing from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM; internment to follow at Glen Eden Cemetery, West St. Paul, MB.
