Pat Winters

Ken and family,
We are sorry we will not be able to attend Ellen’s celebration of life. We will be thinking of you and your family on this emotional day.
I first met Ellen in the early 90’s when we nursed together at Deer Lodge Centre. We soon became friends. Ellen loved nursing even though at times the job was challenging. We frequently tried to find the levity in difficult situations which made working with Ellen a pleasure. She hosted many parties at her home for the 6th floor staff where she was always a hospitable host.Ellen was outspoken and genuine.
We remained friends after Ellen left Deer Lodge. We met for lunches, entertained with Ken and Harold, phoned each other regularly to keep up on the current goings on . We talked about travel plans, our families and life in general. We met at Hnausa the last few summers for food, drink and friendship. Our plans to meet this summer did not work out.
The last few years were a real struggle for Ellen due to her declining health. She was very happy this past winter to go south once again as we witnessed the pictures she shared on Facebook. Ellen spoke of her love for Ken, her boys , her daughter-in-laws and her grandchildren. She mentioned during a hospital visit this summer her only wish was to have a few more years to spend with her grandchildren.
Ellen and I shared many happy and sad times over the years. She was a good friend and I will miss her. Rest in peace dear Ellen.
“Nurses are there when the last breath is taken and nurses are there when the first breath is taken. Although it is more enjoyable to celebrate the birth, it is just as important to comfort in death.” By Christine Bell
Farewell dear friend Pat and Harold Winters
