Matthew Stephen Lagacé
October 20th, 1988 – June 30th, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wonderful, kind, fun-spirited son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend; Matthew. At the age of 30 and after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer, Matthew passed away peacefully June 30th, 2019, with his family by his side. Left to mourn are his parents Claude and Suzie Lagacé; his sister Bernadette Lagacé; Memère Eveline Lagacé; roommates and close friends Nathanael and Charlize Gatza, their children Isaac and Aramis; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who he held near and dear to his heart.
Matthew was predeceased by his grandparents Philippe and Bernice Hogue; Pepère Oscar Lagacé; aunts Sharon Lagacé and Bernadette Campbell; uncle Al Campbell; and cousins Ashley Lagacé and Nicole Gallant.
Matthew was raised in La Salle, MB and enjoyed spending many summers out at the family trailer in St. Malo. He enjoyed being outside and playing all sorts of games. Matthew was a dedicated and hard worker. He held many different types of jobs while attending school and University. Some jobs included; Safeway, a few different daycares, Skip the Dishes, Dunn Rite and Co-op. Matthew graduated from Collège St. Norbert Collegiate in 2006, where thanks to his band/choir teacher; Mme Betz, he found his true passion for the theatre. He later graduated in 2012 from the U of M with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Theatre. From there he worked very hard and became an amazing Stage Manager. Being an Assistant Stage Manager or Stage Manager with Theatre and the Opera, led Matthew to travel for work from Alberta all the way to P.E.I., with Manitoba always being his home base. This line of work led him to meet so many amazing people and build so many great friendships with. Matthew was also very active in the church community, being on our Pastoral Council, working with the youth (Catechism and Squires), as well as being a Knights of Columbus member for Local, District and State. Whenever Matthew had any spare time he enjoyed hanging out with his friends. Whether it was playing board/card games, gaming, playing Pokemon Go, or just sitting around chatting, Matt loved his time with his friends. Matthew lived life to the fullest through his love for family, friends, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and of course Theatre, Opera and the Winnipeg Jets! Matthew was an honest, loving, genuine person who cared so much for anyone who crossed his path. He loved to help people and make them laugh whenever he could. He would also never pass up on a good prank. Matthew touched the lives of so many and will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, humour, smiles and most importantly his hugs. Matthew brought so much joy and happiness to us all. He showed us what true friendship and kindness really is and to not take these things for granted. He taught many of us to live the life you love and to never give up on your dreams. He will be truly missed.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Park and Mayah from Cancer Care, Dr. Christiansen and the staff on 5E at St. Boniface Hospital, as well as Dr. Woelk and the Palliative Care team from Boundary Trails Health Centre, for their amazing care and compassion for Matthew.
A funeral mass will be held at La Salle St. Hyacinthe Church, Monday, July 15th, 2019. Eulogy will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Mass to follow. A reception will be held after the Mass at the Caisse Community Centre. If it is hot we would like to inform you that the Church is not air-conditioned and may be warm. Please feel free to bring water.
