Obituary for Joseph Antonio Albo
Joseph A. Albo
January 22, 1929 – June 9, 2019
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Joseph Albo at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Paul, and sister Justina. He leaves to mourn his wife of 61 years, Valerie, his sister Stella, his daughter Rosanna (Robert Kolly), son Robert (Renee), daughter Annette, grandchildren, Allison and Ryan, and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Grimaldi, Italy, Joe immigrated to Canada in 1948, first settling in Fernie B.C. working in the coal mines, and then later moving to Winnipeg in 1951 to join his brother Paul. He started working as a Bellman at the Fort Garry Hotel, and while attending English school, he met his love and future wife Valerie. After briefly owning a gas station, Joe pursued a career at Simpson Sears in the automotive department. He worked tirelessly for more than 35 years, and retired in 1989.
Joe and Valerie were married June 29th, 1957 and spent more than 61 happy years together as husband & wife. His children – Rosanna, Robert & Annette – brought much joy to him. He loved family life, enjoyed numerous trips together both in Canada and abroad, and was extremely proud of his children. He loved being “papa” to Allison and Ryan, and treasured his time with them and watching them grow.
While Valerie and his family were his first love, soccer was unquestionably his second. He brought his love of the game to Winnipeg, first by coaching his son Robert, and then helping to develop youth soccer in Manitoba. He selflessly devoted his time to helping build the foundations of both the South Soccer District and the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association. From convenor to director, his impact on the local youth programming was undeniable. He did love the Azzuri and was overjoyed at their World Cup victories in 1982 and 2006.
His spirit and laughter will be missed by all.
We would also like to thank the Emergency staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service for the care they provided.

Condolences will be offered at 9:45 am followed by the Mass of Resurrection on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at at 10:30 am from Saint John Brebeuf Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, Winnipeg, MB., Interment in St. Boniface Cemetery, 917 Archibald St., Winnipeg, MB.
