Obituary for Vincenzo Maffiola

VINCENZO MAFFIOLA
March 19, 1920 – May 21, 2019

VINCENZO MAFFIOLA March 19, 1920 - May 21, 2019. Surrounded by family, Papa passed away and is no longer in pain, but in the arms of the Lord. He will be greatly missed and remembered by his wife Giovanna of 70 years, his children: Michele (Chiara), and Anna (Michael); grandchildren: Alessandro (Ashley), Stefania (Kyle), and Sara (Steven); great grandchildren: Owen and Avery. Also mourning his loss are his brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces, and extended family and friends in Canada and Italy. He was predeceased by his parents Michele and Anna, sister Anna (Masciopinto), and brother Franco.

Papa was born in Triggiano, Bari, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1968. Papa took great pride in his profession back home in Italy where he joined his brother-in-law in the Savoiardi making business, as well as utilizing his cuisine skills while working at the Airport Hotel and The Paddock in Winnipeg until his retirement in 1985. He and Giovanna travelled back and forth to Italy before settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba permanently in 2002 to be closer to his children.

Papa had many passions: cooking, fishing, playing cards, going to the Italian bar, watching soccer, and venturing out to watch old Italian movies while stopping for gelato along the way. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family who he loved dearly. His greatest joy was the day he became a grandfather in 1985, and again in 1989. Papa’s smile could light up a room and he was always happiest sharing stories around a table of good food and wine surrounded by those he loved most.

Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on May 28, 2019 at 11: 00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave. with Father Sam Argenziano celebrant. Condolences at 10:30 a.m. Entombment in Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, 3990 Portage Ave.
RIPOSA IN PACE PAPA
