Obituary for Gary Wayne Hall Smith

With the Heaviest of Hearts, We sadly announce the passing of Gary W.H. Smith on January 13th 2019 at the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg.

Gary was born on October 9th 1943 in Winnipeg. Gary was the eldest son to Hall and Violet Smith, He grew up in the St. Boniface/Norwood area.

In Gary's younger years he enjoyed skating at the local skating rink, taking the train with his parents and younger brother to Grand Beach. He especially enjoyed cruising the streets of downtown in his ‘56 Ford.

Gary had a long career with Public Markets as the head accountant for both the railways.

Gary met the love of his life Janet (Kulson) in 1962 at a local party and their relationship grew over the love of Gary's involvement of cars and drag racing, They were married on September 10, 1966. Over the years they enjoyed several activities together such as curling, bowling, ballroom dance classes, attending Jaycee dues and going to the lake in Kenora Ontario.

In March of 1970, they became the proudest parents to twin daughters Debra and Barbara and 11 months later welcomed the arrival of their third daughter Susan. All though life was very hectic with having three daughters so close in age, they had a lot of "Family Fun Days". The family enjoyed many years at the lake and he especially liked "puttering" in the yard to make our property look beautiful, there wasn’t a stump he couldn't conquer. Gary was so proud of his Daughters and Grandchildren and would tell them on a daily basis how much he loved them.

Gary was a gentle kind hearted quiet man, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife Janet, daughters; Debra (Rob), Barb (Jeff), and Sue. Grandchildren; Abby(Tyler), Hayden, Lily, Paige, Mason and his faithful companion "Pickles" their dog. Sister-in-law Judy, Brother-in-law Jimmy (Holly), nieces Laura and Karley, and their families, along with other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Hall and Violet Smith, In-laws Edward and Irene Kulson and most recently his beloved brother Keith.

Gary struggled for several years with Type 1 diabetes and complications with this disease. He fought this disease just like the type of man he was, quiet and strong with true grace and dignity.

Cremation has taken place, As per Gary's wishes no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to JDRF Winnipeg.
