Obituary for Isabel Margaret Clara Palmer

Isabel Palmer
(nee Marriott)

Peacefully, with her family at her side, Isabel passed away December 8, 2018 at the age of 89.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, Reg, daughter Vicki, daughter-in-law Leona, son Randy (Marianne) and daughter Elizabeth (Gary), grandchildren Jennifer, Tom, Matthew, Jeannine and Alex, many great-grandchildren, her brother Harvey Marriott (Irene), her brother-in-law Jim Palmer (Marilyn) and special cousin Margaret Bakker.
She is pre-deceased by her parents Tom and Lilian Marriott and her son David.

Isabel was born in her grandmother’s farm house near Shergrove, Manitoba. Her family moved to Brandon where they opened a store in their front room. The family later moved to Winnipeg and lived on Parkview Street. She graduated from St. James Collegiate and then achieved a Certificate in Secretarial Business from St. James Business College.

Isabel held various jobs before marrying Reg on August 6, 1949. After raising their children, Isabel went back to work, retiring from Managro Harvestore in 1988 where she had been Office Manager for 15 years.
Isabel was a member of Sturgeon Creek United Church, then Lutheran Church of the Cross in Lac du Bonnet, and Harrow United Church when she returned to Winnipeg.

Isabel had many hobbies, including curling, which she started in 1965. Mom always volunteered, serving as President and becoming a lifetime member of the Deer Lodge Ladies Curling Club and Treasurer and lifetime member of the Lac du Bonnet curling club. She thoroughly enjoyed many bonspiels.

Isabel was President of the Ladies Auxiliary at Sturgeon Creek Community Club; and taught Sunday School and Explorers at Sturgeon Creek United Church.
Mom also enjoyed sewing, painting and crafts very much, and could be counted on to sew a sweatshirt as a prize for any event.

Isabel and Reg retired to their cottage on Lee River, Lac du Bonnet. There, Isabel was very involved in the community as a member and Treasurer of the Pioneer Seniors Club.
In their retirement years, Isabel and Reg enjoyed travelling, with friends to tropical locales, and also with Seniors Tours to different European and North American places.

Isabel also had a very special circle of girlfriends in the JUGS (Just Us Girls) with whom she met every second Thursday since Grade 10 until the move to Lac du Bonnet, after which she still went to as many get-togethers as possible.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation for the thoughtful and gentle care that Isabel received during her time that she was part of the Tuxedo Villa family, especially the nurses and aides of Station One.

A celebration of Isabel’s life will take place on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd. Winnipeg, MB.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the charity of choice.
