Obituary for Maria Anna Carmela Anania

Maria Anna Carmela Anania
(nee Scarpino)

November 29,1927- December 6, 2018

It is with deep sadness that the family of Maria Anania mourn her passing. Peacefully with her family by her side, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 6, 2018.
She was predeceased by her husband Giuseppe in 1999, and her daughter Angelina in 2015. She is survived by son Joe Anania (Adriana), and daughter Mary Pesce (Tony). Grandchildren Joey Anania, Maria Buccini (Mike), Andrea Kendrick (Matt), Carolynn Petrillo, Melissa McEvoy (Kevin), Ronnie Petrillo (Jill) and Anthony Pesce. Great grandchildren Isabella, Adriana, Johnny, Joseph, Matteo, Liam, Catriana, Declan, Natalia and Marco. Her brother Joe Scarpino (Rachela), sister Serafina Morello (Franco), and brother in law Angelo Anania (Wilma). As well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Maria was born in Amato Catanzaro, Italy. She met her husband and was married in 1950. Her husband came to Winnipeg in 1954 for a better life and more opportunity for his family. Two years later she came to Winnipeg in 1956 with Joe and Angie to join her husband and start a new life, and then four years later Mary was born. Her children were her pride and joy. Mom also took care of her nephew Joe Anania for two years when at the tender age of one and half years old he lost his mother. She considered him to be like one of her own, a bond that remained with her until her passing. She spent many wonderful weekends at the cottage in Gimli, gardening, cooking and entertaining. Her greatest joy was seeing all her family together. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew her. For the last three years mom lived at Villa Nova, where she made and met many wonderful friends. The family would like to thank Pam Ahwa for taking good care of her, and the tenants of Villa Nova for all their kindness that was given to her. To the Executive Director June and Armando Nasuti a big thank you for all your concerns, and always looking after her, making sure she was always alright. We would also like to thank the medical and supporting staff at the Grace Hospital, 3 south for all your wonderful and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Maria can be made to Cancer Care or charity of one’s choice.

Pall bearers will be her grandsons Joey Anania, Ronnie Petrillo, and Anthony Pesce. Her nephews Joe Anania, Agostino Mauro and Bernie Scarpino.

The family will receive condolences at 10:00 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday December 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Rev. Father Sam Argenziano presiding.
