It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father Manuel on October 5, 2018, with his family at his side at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 87.
Manuel leaves behind his beloved two children who meant the world to him, son Manuel and daughter Emilia (Vasco) along with two granddaughters Mackenzie and Megan.
Besides his immediate family, Manuel leaves behind his brothers Mariano Borges (Donaria) of Markham Ontario, Jose Borges of Sao Miguel, Joao Borges of Sao Miguel, sister-in-laws, Natalia Borges of Sao Miguel, Maria DaCosta, Lucia Cabral, Fernanda Cabral. He also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, godchildren and friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years of marriage, His mother Emilia Borges, Father Manuel Borges, stepmother Almarinda Borges, mother-in-law Maria Do Carmo, brother-in-law Manuel Cabral, sister-in-law Maria Adriana Borges, brother-in-law Moses Almeida, brother-in-law Fernando Cabral, brother Raul Borges, brother-in-law Manuel DaCosta, sister-in-law Valdomira Cabral, sister Maria dos Anjos Almeida, brother-in-law Agustinho Cabral, brother-in-law Jose Vieira Cabral, sister-in-law Deolinda Cabral.
Manuel was born on May 14, 1931 in Arrifes, Sao Miguel, Acores. He arrived in Canada in 1968 and immediately began working in the construction industry. In 1995 Manuel retired due to illness, and spent his golden years tending to his gardens, and fruit trees.
Manuel had many loves and passions, but was most passionate about his wife, and his faith. He had many friends but was most dear to those who shared his love for his faith, and those that were well read. He always cherished the moments he spent with his children, but was fiercely focused on his granddaughters.
Manuel was not wealthy but never walked away from helping those in need and they’re causes, he always volunteered when asked, and gave of his will where it was required.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff and volunteers at St Joseph’s Residence, who made Manuel’s life better, he often said he was very happy there. The family would also like to thank the nursing staff and attending doctors at Seven Oaks General Hospital for the care and compassion they gave our father in his last days. The family would like to extend their thanks to Paulo Cabral for his help and wealth of knowledge in these moments of chaos, and all the pallbearers, Jose Manuel Cabral, Joao Luis Cabral, Jorge Cabral, Paulo Manuel Cabral, Kevin Ferreira
