Obituary for Rosaria "Rose" Pizzi

Rosaria “Rose” Pizzi
October 2, 1939 – May 17, 2018

Rosaria passed away at Concordia Hospital with her family by her side on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the age of 78. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Addolorato “Ed”, parents, Antonio and Giovanna Taddeo, brother Felice, sister Carmela, and son, Antonio “Tony”. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Nick (Cindy) and Rick (Jodie); two grandsons, Anthony and Michael, her brother, Romano (Fran) and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosaria was born in Cantalupo, Italy and, with her family, emigrated to Canada in 1956. She married Addolorato in 1958 in Fort William, Ontario. In addition to caring for her young children, she worked as a waitress at the Columbia Grill. In 1971, Rose’s family moved to Winnipeg and for many years she worked as a cleaning lady at the Richardson Building, Manitoba Law Courts, and other private and corporate employers.

Rosaria was very religious attending mass regularly, often serving communion, and praying the rosary daily. She was a very active volunteer and community leader offering her time, talents, and treasure, for the Holy Rosary Church, Centro Caboto, Villa Cabrini, and the Italian Folklorama Pavillion, to name just a few. Rose truly lived life to the full. She was quick-witted, enjoyed sharing stories, and had a wonderful sense of humour. She travelled extensively with many trips to Montreal, Thunder Bay, Europe, including a trip back to her hometown, winter vacations to Mexico, and a particularly moving trip to the Holy Land. Rosaria was known throughout the community for her culinary skills. Many home-made sausages, litres of wine, and trays of lasagna were lovingly given to family, friends, and acquaintances. Rose had a very active lifestyle, attending her gym several times a week where she formed many friendships with young and old alike. However, her greatest joy was her family. She loved being with them, feeding them, offering her home remedies when they were under the weather, sharing her wisdom and faith, and reminiscing about her time in Italy.

In memorium, donations may be made in Rosaria’s name to the Holy Rosary General Donation Fund, 510 River Ave. Winnipeg, MB. R3L 0E1.
