Obituary for Raffaele Richichi

Raffaele Richichi
Raffaele Richichi
February 3, 1934 – April 27, 2018

It is with deep sorrow that we say goodbye to our beloved Raffaele Richichi. Raffaele is survived by his wife of 58 years Angelina Richichi; children Giusseppe (Judy), Maria (Tony) and Agostino (Shannon); grandchildren Raffaele (Mary), Renate, David (Christa), Natasha (Chris), Michael, Angelina, and Isabella; brothers Frank (Yolanda), Carmen (Rita), and Tony (Maureen) as well as his sister Ida (Fernando), sister-in-law Margaret and brother-in law Egidio. Raffaele is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as numerous friends and extended family members.
Raffaele was predeceased by his parents, Giusseppe and Marietta Richichi, brothers Aldo and Mario, and sister Emma.
Raffaele Richichi was born on February 3, 1934 in Paterno Calabro, Italy to Giusseppe and Marietta Richichi. He was the second child in a family of eight children; five brothers and two sisters. Raffaele came to Canada in 1953 following his brother Aldo and first resided in Nelson, British Columbia. It was on a trip to Winnipeg to visit some friends that Raffaele met his loving wife of 58 years, Angelina Fiorino. It was his love for Angelina that propelled Raffaele to reside in Winnipeg where they married on January 23, 1960 and had three wonderful children: Giusseppe, Maria, and Agostino. Raffaele was a strong father figure who taught his children love and respect.
Raffaele worked for several different employers throughout his life but ended his career with the CN Railway where he took early retirement. Raffaele had many joys in life but his greatest joy was his grandchildren. He endlessly cared for his grandchildren, picked them up from school, and provided them with all of their favourite Italian foods. Raffaele would do anything for anybody and he was the happiest when all of his family was sitting around the table with good food and a glass of his homemade wine.
So our dear papa, Nonno, and loving husband, we will miss you terribly but we know that you are now at peace and in heaven with our Lord. Riposa in pace, we love you very much.
The family would like to thank the staff at the HSC IICU for their compassion and care of Raffaele. The family would also like to thank all of the extended family and friends for their love, support, and acts of kindness.
A mass celebrating Raffaele’s life will be held at St. Ignatius Parish (255 Stafford St.) on Wednesday May 9, 2018. Condolences will be from 10:00am to 10:45am and mass will begin at 11:00am. A luncheon will be held in the church hall following the service. Honourary pallbearers are Raffaele’s seven grandchildren: Raffaele, Renate, Dave, Natasha, Michael, Angelina, and Isabella.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Lung Assocation of Manitoba.
