Born March 5, 1934 in Swan River, Manitoba, Dave attended Kelwood Consolidated School, and then Manitoba Technical Institute (MTI) in Winnipeg where he earned his certificate in diesel mechanics.
Dave’s working life began at age 19 working for CN Rail installing telephone lines in Northern Ontario, followed by his study at MTI which led to a 44-year career at Standard Aero Engine starting in 1956. Beginning as a shop mechanic he progressed steadily throughout his career at Standard Aero. Respected by all and a mentor to many, he held several management positions and finished his career in 1999 as Director of Training and Safety. This role gave him tremendous satisfaction and allowed him to pursue his passion of teaching. His gift of making the complex understandable was evident to all. Dave had an enduring impact on many of the employees of Standard Aero.
Through much of his working life, Dad was a weekend farmer which kept him close to the work he was born into. It was more than just a hobby for him and it drew on his great strengths of hard work and mechanical genius.
After retiring dad continued to repair and renew, be it his vehicle or home he was most often working on some project. When not hard at work, dad enjoyed being outside, playing golf.
