Obituary for Marcella Louisa Iafolla

Marcella Iafolla (nee Lucarelli)
August 29, 1945 – December 30, 2017

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother on Saturday, December 30, 2017 with her family at her side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Marcella will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 53 years Salvatore; her sons, Luigi (Giovanna) and Massimo (Amanda), and her treasured granddaughters; Alessandra, Nicole, and Emma. She also leaves to mourn her memory her sister Maria DiPaolo from Toronto, Brother Giovanni (Maria) Lucarelli & sister-in-law Bambina Lucarelli all from Albany, New York. Her cousin Salvatore (Josie) Garofoli and in-laws Maria (Tony) DiIanni from Winnipeg. Also, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in Winnipeg, Toronto, New York, Chicago, and Italy. She was predeceased by her parents Rocco & Assunta Lucarelli, Brothers; Alberto (Genivieve), Pasquale, & Silvanno Lucarelli, and in-laws: Luigi & Delfina Iafolla, Lino DiPaolo, Alfiero & Anna Buccini, and nieces; Sonia & Stephanie DiIanni.
Marcella came to Canada in 1964 soon after marrying her husband Salvatore in Villalago, Italy. They settled in Winnipeg and were very happy to welcome their first son Luigi shortly after arriving, and second son Massimo 6 years later. Her children were always the main focus of her life; she was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and generally taking care of her home and family. She worked outside of the home for a few years at Health Science Centre in the housekeeping department, but left work to take care of her ailing mother who later returned to New York. Marcella was very dedicated in her faith and had a particular devotion to S. Domenico (the patron saint of Villalago). She was very involved with the annual procession of the saints at Holy Rosary Church and baked traditional cookies and presented bouquets of flowers to honor S. Dominico and in support of her devotion. She also was one of the organizers of the annual S. Dominico picnic at Kildonan Park. She spoke fondly of her life in Villalago and returned several time to visit her many friends and family, as well a visiting family in Toronto and New York.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave at 11:00 am Rev. Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Viewing/condolences will commence at 10:00 am. Entombment in Holy Angel Mausoleum, Green Acres Cemetery #1 Hwy E. at Navin Road. Winnipeg, MB.
