STEPHANIE ALISHA VERMIERE
March 3, 1988 - October 25, 2017

With unrelenting sadness, we announce the very sudden passing of our beloved Stephanie at the age of 29. She will be lovingly remembered and missed deeply by her mother Mary Werba and stepfather, Chris Werba; father Gordon Vermiere (Monique), brother Ryan McIntyre, sisters Kristy Vermiere and Jory Janzen and her treasured pets Tobiko and Piggy. Stephanie also leaves to mourn numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends.
Stephanie is also survived by her Great grandmother Christine McKay of Winnipeg and grandmother Caroline Burston of Tootinowaziibeeng First Nation. Stephanie was predeceased by her paternal grandmother, Mildred Vermiere who Stephanie lovingly referred to as “Granny Vermiere”. The two shared a very special bond that remained strong even years after Granny’s passing.
Stephanie was born March 3rd, 1988 in Winnipeg Manitoba and grew up in both Stonewall and Winnipeg Manitoba. She attended R.W. Bobby Bend Junior High and Stonewall Collegiate High School then graduated from Miles MacDonald Collegiate in Winnipeg.
Stephanie was currently enrolled at Red River Community College where she was working toward the completion of training for her passion of working with children with special needs and youth at risk. In the past she worked with Rossbrook House, DASCH and other social services agencies. Stephanie also enjoyed spending time travelling with her good friend Matt to work on trades related tasks.
Stephanie came from a family of many social workers and took an interest in going into the profession. She was motivated by the fact that her 21 year old brother is autistic and also by the challenges that she faced in her own life.
Stephanie battled fiercely to overcome and addiction and anxiety/depression. She wanted to use her life lessons to educate youth at risk and prevent them from becoming casualties of drugs, exploitation and violence. Throughout that struggle she kept true to her faith in God and that relationship brought her some healing and strength along the way.
Stephanie was a dedicated and active member of The Wave Church where she volunteered at the food bank. She made numerous friends and acquaintances through church who remember her as always being selfless and generally just a beautiful caring soul.
Stephanie was involved with the Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue (MMDR) where she volunteered and fostered dogs, one of which she fell in love with and adopted (Piggy). Overall, Stephanie was an animal lover and over the years she adored her many furbabies and foundlings.
She also enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling and boating. Stephanie was proud to share that she learned to fire a 9mm handgun with her dad’s supervision and that she proved to be an excellent markswoman. As much as she enjoyed the outdoor action and adventure she lavished in the world of hair salons, makeup, spas, manicures and generally being pampered.
Stephanie will always be remembered as a head strong young woman, a fighter with a fun and bubbly personality, beauty that would light up the room and a laugh that made people feel light and happy to be in her presence. We are all comforted in the fact that she is now safe and in the arms of her Creator in Heaven.
Special thanks to staff at the M.I.N.E. clinic who have worked exceptionally hard in supporting Stephanie throughout her illness.
Please join us at 11am on November 1, 2017 in a celebration of her life. In memory of Stephanie, feel free to bring photographs, mementos etc. as we will have a table set up to display.
Services will be held at: Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Boulevard (at Keewatin)

The family would like you to join us at 10:30AM prior to the Christian services for a drum song to honor Stephanie’s First Nation background. Details of the reception afterward will be provided as they are confirmed.

*In lieu of flowers donations may be made to assist in the care of Stephanie’s faithful pets, Tobiko and Piggy.
