Roy Allen Zastre
December 1, 1952 – January 26, 2017

Roy passed away on January 26th, 2017 after a 15 month battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Fran, son Brett, daughter-in-law Tamara, granddaughters Emily and Alyssa, and daughter Jane, he is also survived by the entire Vandenberg clan. Roy was predeceased by his parents Norah in October and Allen in December of 2005; his father-in-law, Ted in February 2009 and mother-in-law, Catie in November 2013.
Roy was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Elmwood. In his youth he enjoyed fishing with his dad, uncles and cousins. He met and fell in love with the beautiful blonde haired blue-eyed Dutch girl Fran who lived next door to his family home. As a youth he made several camping road trips to the Southwest US and when he and Fran were married, camping became an economical way for them to travel with Brett and Jane and see some of the spectacular parks Roy had earlier enjoyed.
Roy loved barbequing in all its forms; charcoal, wood-fired, propane and more recently the ease of natural gas, where spectacular meals were prepared and enjoyed either on their backyard deck or while camping.
He also loved music either playing his guitar or listening to his varied collection of music on his squeezebox. Music both relaxed and invigorated him, there was rarely silence in the home.
Roy loved animals, and regarded them as little people in fur coats and found them hugely entertaining. Throughout their married life they enjoyed the antics and companionship of several cats.
Roy enjoyed unwinding to shoot’em up movies on his big screen TV with the surround system blasting from the speakers.
He was proud of his children and their achievements. The arrival of his first grandchild made him even more contented.
Roy continued to work at BioChambers through his illness. He felt he made a difference to the Company, they were his work family and he cared about them deeply.
