Obituary for Karl Douglas Yaworski

Karl Douglas Yaworski
KARL DOUGLAS YAWORSKI
MARCH 19, 1954 TO NOVEMBER 24, 2016

Karl Douglas Yaworski, age 62, of Winnipeg, MB. passed from this life on to his next journey. His soul-mate, best friend and love of his life, Kathleen, stayed by his side until his passing.

Karl is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Kathleen. He was the seventh of nine siblings and also had seven step-siblings. He was predeceased by his parents, four sisters and two brothers. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-Law, Marie and Sam Scaletta and numerous in-laws.

Karl was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on March 19, 1954. He went to Hammarskjold High School where he made many life long friends. Karl came from a big family and was quick to learn the art of negotiation and still keep everyone happy. This trait served him well in life especially when dealing with a burly cantankerous customer or a tired wife. Karl excelled at sports and had a promising career in hockey until a bad knee injury changed his life direction. Being adventuresome, Karl moved to Winnipeg where he eventually married his Sweetie #1, Kathleen and became the Manager of the Marion Hotel. Karl met Kathleen at the Marion. He was a loyal employee of the Marion Hotel having earned his legendary status with over 28 years of service.

Karl and Kathleen shared many interests but their favorite was their annual trek to Hawaii where Karl loved to bask in the sun. He didn’t believe in wearing shorts to the beach, his regular attire was sweatpants no matter how high the thermostat climbed. Karl kept his finger on the pulse of most sports networks; he loved to nestle down into a comfortable chair, a remote control in one hand and his favorite ice cold beverage in the other. When it came to NFL, he loyally supported the Kansas City Chiefs; when it came to baseball he backed the Oakland A’s. Karl was an avid golfer and he kept the greens well worn at Sandy Hook. If Karl wasn’t out golfing then he enjoyed watching the pros Bubba Watson and Phil Michelson on the Golf Channel.

Karl had many nieces and nephews and his great sense of whimsy kept the young ones captivated. He entertained them with “money sticks” that could locate cash in the yard grass and many other little pranks which kept the kids laughing.

Karl always burned up the long distance phone minutes during his regular calls back home to his two brothers, Johnny and Robert. Karl always said they talked about nothing much but Kathleen suspects they were discussing next weeks Pro Line picks or Nascar Races.

Karl was a gentle-natured, kind and generous person. He faced adversity with courage, strength and grace especially in living with cancer for the past 10 years. He will always be remembered for his genuine laugh, his affable spirit and his caring attitude towards family or friends.

A celebration of Karl’s life will be held on Saturday, December 10th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mosaic Funeral Home on Nairn. There will be a reception to follow. Father Sam Argenziano will officiate the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choice, p.s. we all know Karl loved animals.
