ROMEO NATIVIDAD PADUA
AUGUST 12, 1943 – NOVEMBER 29, 2017
Romeo (well known to friends and family, as Romy) who was 74 years of age, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 3:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface General Hospital in the presence of his loving wife, his children and grandchildren. He had overcome many illnesses in the past 5 years, until his body, not his spirit, gave up and opened his arms receiving the Lord’s welcome. Romy, joins his predeceased parents, Dr. Roldolfo Padua Sr. and Felicisima Natividad Padua; his siblings, Antonia Padua, Donald Padua, and Corazon Padua Ala; and his beloved granddaughter, Kirstyn Padua.
Romeo was born on August 12, 1943. Romy was married to Rosario (Rosie) Beltran Padua for more than 53 years. Romy and his family migrated to Canada in 1972. He and his family lived in Winnipeg until 1991 in which he and his wife Rosie moved to BC. while staying with Jocelyn. They enjoyed living in BC very much because of many activities such as crabbing, oyster picking and spending weekends in Seattle, enjoying time with friends from Westwood Community Church group which Romy was very active in their activities. Romy retired at Varta Batteries in 1989, migrated to BC and worked as a Bowling Mechanic Technician, then retired in 2010, and then after, moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to family. He loved to keep working and doing things that interest him. Romy was strong in faith and spirit, joyful, hardworking, helpful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Romy loved being with his wife and kids, either singing in karaoke until the end of the evening. His singing talents cannot be forgotten - he loved to sing and his passion in singing showed.
He could go on and on, until everyone shuts off the lights and bid their good nights. He loved playing at the casinos, playing majong with friends and family every Friday at Mike’s and Elena’s house, being at the lake whenever he could after dialysis, card games with family and friend gatherings, and in earlier years, fishing with all his sons and relatives.
He was considered a hero to many. He was quiet and rarely was angry at anything, always making people laugh. Romy always cared for his family. Even on his last day, he wanted everyone to go home and rest as he knew people had to go to work and school the next day and that he will see everyone again in the morning and waved his last heartwarming goodbye.
Romy’s memories will be cherished by his 4 sons, Rey (Catherine), Ric (Ethelinda), Mike (Elena) and Albert (Rowena) and a daughter, Jocelyn (Roden); 15 grandchildren: RJ (Nary), Rosalind (Jophiel), Delorean (Heather), Edric, Eric (Michelle), Edward, Richard, Taren, Christian, Narissa, Kaylee, Arlyn, Camryn, Alycia and Sheryl-lynn and 5 great grandchildren: Alyssa, Violet, Jet, Jace, and Luke and extended grand-daughters, Tessalynn, and Chanel who spent many wonderful days with their grandfather while living at Jocelyn’s and Roden’s home. His siblings: Dr. Rodolfo Padua Sr. (Evelyn), Josephine (Dave), Evangeline (Bernabe), Juliet (Mario)and Cleopatra.
Romy also leaves his best friend, Ermida Ner; and many close friends, including those he met in BC; friends in Westwood Community Church whose members not only provided support but also everlasting friendships. Thank you to Pastor Juilio and Lina Gabelli for their ongoing support to the family.
Romy is also remembered by other numerous relatives and friends from Canada, United States, and Philippines.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and medical staff at St. Boniface General Hospital and the Dialysis staff for their caring support for Romy and the family.
