Francesco Serreti
April 26, 1929 – August 4, 2017
With deep sadness, the family announces the peaceful passing of Francesco (Frank) Serreti on August 4, 2017 at St. Boniface Hospital.
Frank was predeceased by three sisters, Esperia, Italia and Adua, two brothers Giovanni and Armando, and is survived by his brother Vincenzo.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 68 years, Marina, his children, Giuseppina (Remi), Carmine (Kim) and Esperia, his six grandchildren, Michael, Paul, Christopher, Stephen, Anne, and Jeffrey, and three great-grandchildren, Darrian, Emma and Kayden, and sister-in-law Itala Pesce. He will be sadly missed by his numerous nephews, nieces, and other relatives in Canada, Italy and Holland.
Frank was born on April 26, 1929 in Rosarno, Italy. On September 24, 1950, he married the love of his life, Marina. In 1954 Frank, with his wife and daughter, immigrated to Canada. Despite the hardships of the early years in Canada, Frank made great efforts to ensure his family could have opportunities he never had. He worked as an electrician for Eaton’s for 31 years, retiring in 1994. Frank was a talented handyman and labored tirelessly to improve several family homes. Frank also had many passions: he was a dedicated gardener, loved making wine, and was an avid follower of the news.
Culture and family was of extreme importance to Frank. He often told his children, “There is nothing more important in this world than family.” In 1968, Frank organized a family trip to Italy. He delighted in sharing memories of his childhood and the Italian culture.
Some of Frank’s happiest moments were spending time with his grandchildren, from the early years of babysitting, attending their sports’ games or concert events, sharing his love for movies, and engaging them in passionate conversations about life lessons. He often got a laugh out of his grandchildren with his great sense of humor and his big heart.
The family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to the staff in the St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Department, and the 5th floor 5E staff, for their care, support and compassion during Frank’s very difficult journey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Boniface Research Foundation in Frank’s memory.
