Helen Irene Richard (Cairns)
Mom was born on May 28, 1944 in Keewatin, Ontario. After a brief illness she passed away June 16, 2017 at Riverview Health Center, Winnipeg, MB.
Mom was predeceased by her parents (David and Eleanor), brother (George), sister (Susan), partner (Buddy), grandsons (Kyle and Konnor), great-granddaughter (Denayah) and son-in-law (Stan). Left to cherish her memory are her kids; Kim (Dennis), Irene, Eric (Jackie), grandchildren/great-grandchildren; Kayla (Darion), Krista and Charles (Landon), Kendra, Karla (Kaliyah), Kelvin, Kasey, Kamron, Karl and Kole. Sister (Dorothy and Carl), Darryl, Theresa and Cara-Lee and their kids Amy, Brent and Payton.
Mom had been a caregiver from a very young age. Raising her siblings, working as an OR orderly in Ninette, a health care aid with homecare for 31 years until her retirement in 2008. She was selfless, strong and independent her whole life. She raised her children alone and helped raise her grandkids for the past 17 years. She was always taking care of others, sending homemade pancakes to the neighbours and baking goodies for Kim’s co-workers at HSC.
Mom was always involved in something. She was president of the parent council at our elementary school and president of the tenants association at Orchard Park. She loved keeping busy, planning fundraisers and organizing day trips.
Mom was an active member of the “Grannies Gone Global” group since it started in 2006. She looked forward to spending time and having inners with Chris Penner and her grannies (the first Thursday of the month).
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff on GH4 at Health Sciences Center and Riverview 3W for their support and compassion towards our mother and family. You’re truly amazing people. To Joanne Paterson for always being there for us, and Jay Cuaresma for treating mom like his own. She loved you both, like her own kids.
As per Moms request, cremation has taken place. A “Celebration of Life” will be held on July 4, 2017 at our house on Bannerman Ave. Everyone is welcome to attend, come have some food, see some pictures and tell a story.
Mom: We love you and miss you tons.
