Mrs. Shirley-Anne (Hrycyshyn) Lemon of Winnipeg, Manitoba met three angels (her Mom, Dad and husband Merlin Lemon) in heaven on June 8th, 2017 at the Grace Hospital.
Shirley-Anne was born on December 22, 1942 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Miroslav (Do) and Olga Hrycyshyn of Riverton, Manitoba.
Mom’s journey in life began while working at her dad’s garage in Riverton after school. There she met a young man (Merlin Lemon) from Saskatchewan whose family had moved to town with the RailRoad. They were high school sweethearts, inseparable and would attend all the town dances together. They were always the ones to watch, even up till their last dance together.
After high school Shirley-Anne moved to Winnipeg where she went to work for the Eaton’s Company.
Shirley-Anne loved music. She was an accomplished accordion and organ player who often played with Johnny and his Musical Mates. She would tell stories about her playing with all the musicians of Winnipeg’s North End in the early 1960’s. A good laugh was always had.
On October 17th, 1964, Shirley-Anne married her dance partner Merlin Lemon. They moved to Bredenbury, Saskatchewan to start a family. Ross Lemon was born in 1965. Later, a coin flip would decide the future of her young family. Heads Winnipeg, tails Calgary, Winnipeg won. Scott Lemon was born in 1976.
Housewife, mother, caregiver, employee, entertainer and business owner, Shirley-Anne has done it all. To all who were part of the Ukrainian Christmas and court whist parties, you know just how much pleasure and fun it was for Shirley-Anne to play host. To everyone who received an afghan or slippers, you know Shirley-Anne made each one unique and with love. To all her friends at the bank, she always treasured your friendships.
Shirley-Anne found her true passion later in life. Proving you’re never too old to begin something new. Flowers were to be her new life’s passion. Shirley-Anne purchased the Bloomin’ Flower Pot Florist in the Convention Center. She had a flair for floral design and created the most outstanding flower arrangements. Those arrangements were always one of a kind, just like the person creating them.
Shirley-Anne also enjoyed traveling, especially casino trips. She would go to Grand Forks, The Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas and South Beach Casino with her partner in crime Doris. One of her favourite trips was to the Master’s Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia with Ross. She loved watching Freddy Couples swing a club but really loved seeing all the flowers and plants the golf course had. She would comment how much it would cost her to bring in this flower or plant and wished she could take the flowers back to Winnipeg with her. Great memories.
Shirley-Anne is survived by her two sons, Ross (Mary) Lemon, Scott Lemon and Allie-May. Allie-May is Scott’s dog and the first she had to help raise from a puppy. Shirley-Anne and Allie had a strong bond and loved each other very much. She has numerous relatives across western Canada and Ontario along with grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews in Atlanta, Savannah and Augusta, Georgia, USA.
Shirley-Anne’s wishes will be honored as there will be no service or memorial. The interment will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 12:30 pm at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in 4000 Portage Ave, Manitoba.
In lieu of Flowers, the Canadian Cancer Society will be accepting donations in her name.
