Obituary for Benigno Aragon Cornejo

Benigno Aragon Cornejo
Benigno Aragon Cornejo
February 27, 1940 – June 6, 2017

With saddened hearts, we announce that Benigno Aragon Cornejo has passed away with his family by his side on June 6, 2017 at the age of 77 years.

Ben is survived by his beautiful wife, Corazon; two daughters, Liezel and husband Domingo Protacio, Christine and husband Curtis Brent Fehr; grandchildren, Beatrice, Bernice; niece, Rowena; siblings Carmelita, Carlito, Sonia, and Restituto; nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Benigno Aragon Cornejo was born in Manila, Philippines on February 27, 1940. Ben spent most of his life as a resident of Pasay City—he finished high school at Pasay City West in 1956, was a pioneer member of Pasay City Baptist Church from the 70’s and 80’s, was a barangay kagawad in Zone 167 during the 90s.

As he believed that good education was his ticket to success, Ben completed his Accountancy degree from Far Eastern University though already in his 30s. He became a successful Sales Executive, spanning a career of almost 40 years. He had eventually retired at the age of 65 from Basix Box Industries, where he spent most of his professional years.

Ben had been a faithful servant of Pasay City Christian Church holding various ministries and leadership posts– from Auditor to Board Member, Chairman of the Board, and to Elder. He was a key in building the Church in Geronimo Street, Malibay and was involved in other church-planting ministries in Batangas, Laguna, Cavite, and Antique.

Ben immigrated to Canada on July 2015 to be with his two daughters. His COPD illness was confirmed early 2016, and had been courageously battling the disease until his death. Ben was a fighter– he was in a coma after a car accident at 33, had undergone quadruple bypass and aneurysm surgery at 65 and induced coma earlier this year due to his COPD.

Benigno’s family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the Staff of Seven Oaks Hospital the numerous caregivers, nurses, doctors for all their help and support.

Viewing/Lamay will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 commencing at 6pm – 12am at Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd., Winnipeg MB. Rev. James Castronuevo celebrant.

Interment in the Philippines at a later date.
