John Fletcher Nov 29, 1942 – Mar 3, 2016-03-03

Suddenly, on March 3, John passed away in his sleep. He is preceded by his parents, Hannah and Joseph Fletcher and his brother Eddie. He is survived by his wife Irene and his three children; Leah Murphy (Keith), Melanie Guest, and Phillip Fletcher. He will greatly missed by his grandchildren, Tyler (Jessica), Brian, Bryton, Brett and great grandson Nathan. It is unfortunate that John did not get to meet his newest great grandson, Brody John Guest, who was born just days prior to losing John.

John (It’s your big brother calling) also leaves behind two sisters Doreen and Cleo (Gord), along with a long list of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was proud to be a member of a five generation family.

John was born and raised in Moose Jaw, SK and was still a visitor year over year to visit the homestead near Spring Valley, SK. He was a lifelong educator but a Saskatchewan farmhand at heart. He passed on his passion for farming to his grandson Tyler. Resulting from several visits to the family homestead, Tyler is now a proud country boy with his own acreage. He had a long career as an instructor at Red River College and was enjoying retirement by biking, golfing and attending the numerous events his family were involved in. He enjoyed long walks at Bird Hills Park (specifically the Cedar bog trail) and fondly recalled his days of camping across Western Canada with his kids and grandkids. John could be seen biking to work from Transcona to Red River College on Notre Dame Avenue on a daily basis, a mere 28 km round trip. He would bike home and enjoy his favourite meal, a toasted tomato, cheese, and lettuce sandwich while sipping from his mug of frozen lemonade that was always in the freezer. He was a proud member of the Heritage Club at Red River College and could be seen on most days working out in the gym. John lived a minimalistic life but did have his favourite treats such as lime popsicles, black licorice, Heavenly Hash ice cream, garlic and toasted green onion sandwiches. John was a beloved son who visited his Mother on a weekly basis. Even though he enjoyed the meal and the company, he always mentioned, in a joking manner, of his Mother overcooking the meat. The family has lost an encyclopedia of family knowledge as John always seemed to know where family lived, no matter where in Canada, and what they were up to. A great wealth of knowledge is now unfortunately gone. He especially loved holiday gatherings surrounded by his family. Christmas of 2015 will never be forgotten and will be special in all of our hearts. You were taken from us too early as we all looked forward to years and years of special events with you.

You will be dearly missed and our family gatherings will never be the same without you!
